Today Robert Renteria is the Co-Founder of WashPro USA, but spent his infancy sleeping in a chest of drawers in a one room bachelor apartment in East L.A. Robert Renteria is a man who has devoted his life to people who need a break; who takes their hands and shows them how to get out of the armpit of our barrios and ghettos and break the cycle of poverty. Listen below to this special Y Talk interview as we speak with Robert about how he is changing lives and his groundbreaking book From the Barrio to the Boardroom.
Note: If you are an educator, principal, parent, community or corporate leader, I highly recommend that you buy this book by the truckload for your school, community, Boys and Girls Club or local organization. It is truly inspiring and gives hope and inspiration to those young men and women who think they don’t have a chance in life!

We would like to share a free chapter with you of EDGE! A Leadership Story
Download your free chapter here
Many of you have also asked how we wrote the book. This interview with the authors will give you a glimpse into our process.
Chapter Description:
The famous story of Jerry Maguire is not unlike what Mitchell James experiences in this chapter of EDGE! A Leadership Story. Our main character, Mitch, goes through both a breakdown and a breakthrough. He cannot escape the fact that he is not satisfied with his place in his family, in the world at large or within the walls of Global Trade Management, and he begins to dig deeply into his life by confronting his demons and writing his personal manifesto. What starts out as a struggle-laden piece of homework assigned by his Executive Coach, Kate Nelson, becomes pages and pages of deeply rooted thoughts, emotions and passions about his life. He reconnects with his creativity and what was most important in life, what ticked him off, the death of his best friend, hearing the words of his colleagues and wife, Anna. In doing so, he opens the door to reconciling his life with them. This chapter is emotional, passionate and draws the reader in with a creative writing exercise that will set your soul on fire!

If you are looking for a way to spice up your blog, articles or conversation, I highly recommend picking up a copy of the book L is for Lollygag: Quirky Words for a Clever Tongue by Chronicle Books Staff. The book includes all sorts of great words and phrases (Good Night Nurse, YOWZA and persnickety are a few of my favorites). Really fun!
